A Ton of Anime Updates Landed During the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays offer a plethora of pastimes far superior than scanning the latest news: opening presents, feasting on holiday treats, and using meditation skills to avoid yelling at family members. I hope you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy developments came out during the holidays, and should you didn't see any, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (Come 2027)

Perhaps the biggest piece of news, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to deter more episodes. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which might be a hopeful indicator. However, the key visual for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, by now, they are probably teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now the community is ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been going on for a while, and its sixth season was yet another outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will very likely debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

One more studio known for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.

The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has yet to be revealed.
