Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for doubts to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
Slot lamented recurring weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell like this with outcomes this poor.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
