Individuals of an Italian family of burglars who stole over £1.2m valued of goods, among them from ex- Newcastle United forward Isak, have been ordered to return just £1 per person.

Brothers Valentino Nikolov and Giacomo, their female sibling Jela Jovanovic and her child Charlie travelled to the northeastern of the UK to burgle multiple homes in April 2024.

The group of four were jailed for from six and 10 years in 2025.

At a criminal assets proceeding at the court, Jela Jovanovic and the brothers Nikolov were ordered to repay £1 each while Charlie Jovanovic must pay over a thousand pounds.

Particulars of the Burglaries

The court previously heard the group came by ferry in the UK on 27 March 2024 and used a campervan as their "base of operations", which they stationed at Scotch Corner and Durham service rest stops while using another car to search for targets and carry out burglaries.

On March 31 they took over £1m of goods including high-end fashion, purses, jewellery and a CBE medal from a house on a street in Jesmond, while the residents were away.

The following night, the gang broke into a house on a gated cul-de-sac in Whitburn, South Tyneside, and took luxury bags, valuables and shoes worth more than one hundred thousand pounds.

After scouting out Newcastle United's facility for two days, they then acted at the home of Sweden striker Mr Isak in Darras Hall on 4 April, taking £10,000 in cash, sixty-eight thousand pounds valued of jewelry and the player's one hundred twenty thousand pound Audi RS6.

The group, who were portrayed by prosecutors as experienced touring thieves, used gloves and masks, switched their mobile devices off as they approached their targets and attached a number plate, which had been taken from a auto shop in Chester-le-Street, on to their car with elastic bands.

They were apprehended in the Birmingham on 13 April.

Court Hearings and Rulings

Valentino had denied conspiracy to burglary but was convicted by jurors, while his family members had all submitted guilty pleas to the same charge.

At the criminal gains session, prosecutor Daniel Cordey said every one of the burglars had benefited from their offenses to the amount of over £1.2 million, which was determined by what the affected parties said they had lost.

But Charlie Jovanovic was the sole individual deemed to have any funds that could be "realised", specifically £1,135.50 which had previously been confiscated by police, the court was informed, with two weeks to be spent in jail if he defaulted.

The remaining members had no money or assets so were directed to pay a nominal fee of £1 each, with one week in incarceration the result if the money was not submitted.

Judge Robert Spragg said if they were discovered with assets in the coming years, "such as operating Italy in a sports car or possessing a home", the prosecution could initiate further action to "recover the sum due".
