Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
