The Actress States Speaking About Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ That’s Ripping the Nation Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels appropriate to comment publicly regarding the Trump administration, concerned it could intensify divisive discussions and further divisions throughout the nation.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Says Jennifer Lawrence
During a discussion, Lawrence shared, “During the first Trump administration, I thought I was moving hastily in a panicked state. But experience has shown, election after election, Hollywood stars fail to influence at all on voter decisions.”
The actor went on, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the country apart.”
Shifting Views
The actress has admitted freely about backing conservative and liberal contenders throughout her life. Raised by conservative Republicans in Kentucky, she supported John McCain in 2008 prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and explaining she recognized during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was opposing her own rights as a woman.
Previous Comments
Several years ago, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election might signal “the end of the world” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “because I think she’s a strong contender and I am confident that she will make every effort to protect abortion access.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Jennifer Lawrence was aligned with most of Hollywood in her opposition to Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact public figures have over the voting intentions was emphasized by his election win.
“Another four years feels different,” noted Lawrence about his administration. “As he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for his first term. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”
New Release
Jennifer Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, the filmmaker’s drama in which she portrays a young mom who deals with her emotional state in the countryside. During a media event for the movie in the film festival, Lawrence commented on the situation in the Middle East: “I’m terrified. It’s devastating. What’s occurring is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Wider Issues
The actress elaborated by stating that she was disappointed by “the lack of civility in the conversations of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be normalised to the kids right now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”
She aimed to shift outrage about the situation to decision-makers rather than celebrities. “Concentrate on who is responsible,” she advised, in what many took to be a nod to the declaration signed by thousands of Hollywood professionals to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.
Relatable Experiences
Lawrence, who received an Academy Award aged 22 for her performance in the acclaimed film, is attracting awards attention for her performance in her latest project. Although the director has disputed the plot being seen as one of postpartum depression and psychological distress, the actress shared that she connected with elements of her role’s experience after the birth of her youngest child, soon after filming concluded.
“It was fear regarding my baby,” she explained, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a treatment called Zurzuvae and I used it for a short period and it made a difference.”
Professional Experiences
Lawrence also discussed regarding the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the project while she was in pregnancy and unable to exercise.
“It’s refreshing,” she said, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “I mean, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
