The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror Merging Survival Horror and Social Deduction Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"This is a unique game where a girl containing several personalities within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Within her reside four distinct souls, all possessing unique fears and drives. These entities can seize control at will, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a eerie medical facility, though other scenes show the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

A World of Personal Dread

"What are you fearful of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to others can activate something primal inside us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The core mechanic involves controlling whichever soul emerges at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's fears become exaggerated and attack the girl in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with orderlies who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the lobby have enormous flowers growing from their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a creator. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player believes a persona is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, because each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining could be a fraud. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
