Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup With the Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
Canada's MLB team reached their first World Series following 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the final Game 7 of the ALCS.
Behind 3-1, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh inning, guiding the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. Next up are the defending champions, the team that is the current crown, in the upcoming World Series.
"It's incredible for this squad, the city, Canada," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now connected for 23 total post-season home runs, placing him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another person in the world that I want up in that situation except for him with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the only MLB franchise never to appear in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it hurts" in the wake of his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their performance throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we ended up on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.
Toronto secured the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will host the Los Angeles in game one on this Friday.
