Trump Welcomes Families of Attacked Guard Members to White House

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the White House.

He added that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Event

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.

Memorials across the state have taken place in their memory.

Presidential Call

The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president informed reporters. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”

Public Reaction

Attendees gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.

Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.

Honoring the Soldier

“She was the kind of student that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the leader of her previous school, informed the media. “She was kind, considerate and always eager to support those in need.”

Service plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Judicial Actions and Policy Revisions

Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.

The tragedy prompted the Trump administration to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of the Airman

The airman, a native of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the news agency.

He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on a news show that she planned to speak to Wolfe’s family.

Impact of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had bravery,” the governor informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
