Yes, it's Full of Nonsense, Over-the-Top Hospitality and Psychobabble. But I Do Cherish Meghan's Holiday Special.

No concerned with the time of year, it's constantly fair game for scrutiny on the Meghan Markle's TV show, With Love, Meghan. Commentators, from seasoned journalists to online pundits, have rarely been so united as when eagerly tearing the series' first and second seasons to pieces. The general consensus held that a more egregious regal scandal had seldom occurred than the notorious pretzel-bagging incident.

Now, in the spirit of a holiday maverick, she makes a comeback for another round with a "Festive Special" (also known as a Christmas special). However on this occasion, it's different. The standard components audiences anticipate – meaningless jargon salads, extreme hosting – persist, but framed of a yuletide episode, the purpose becomes clear. The pieces have fallen together; it's a perfect snow storm.

Now, Meghan has become the quirky relative at Christmas celebrations everywhere – offering unsolicited, unnecessary advice, and delivering the periodic peculiar declaration. ("I love spinach!" … "A tradition has to have a beginning." … "A tree is part of my memory and love of the holiday season.") She's an interesting figure, but her presence is familiar and oddly reassuring. And she appears pleased; she's inflicting a bit of damage.

She knows her all subtle gestures, word and gaze will be analyzed and judged, but still appears relaxed and serenely untroubled.

Maybe this is the first occasion in history where that well-worn saying – "Ignore them, they're just jealous" – might be true. The reason is, you know what?, all aspects in Meghan's Holiday Celebration honestly feels lovely. Yes, it's all painfully excessive, foolishness and extravagant – but isn't that precisely what Christmas is for? And the words she speaks might be ridiculous, but the life she leads seems authentically beautifully curated.

Anything she sets her mind to, she executes with style. Her cooking looks delicious, the wreath she crafts is breathtaking, her presents are nearly too beautiful to tear into. Not a single thing is ordinary or ugly – even the way she ties her apron is creative and fashionable. She doesn't throw a dish in the microwave, it "goes for a spin", and she creases wrapping paper like an origami guru. She also seems to be thoroughly enjoying herself the entire time. How could any cynical observer not be won over, bursting with festive joy and left with a deep longing for handmade crackers or a vegetable display where greens is arranged in the likeness of a festive circle?

Meghan had a career in acting for a living, naturally, but nonetheless, after the level of scrutiny she has endured ever since she met Prince Harry, a theoretical combination of two legendary actresses would struggle to act this naturally. Her unwillingness to change or even moderate her persona, regardless of it being so persistently, globally mocked, is strangely reassuring. In our volatile world, here is one thing we can rely on: Meghan will stay true to form, whatever happens. We will always know our position with her.

If you're remaining skeptical of what she's selling, a thought that will undoubtedly come as a reassurance: you aren't required to. We don't have the draft these days, and if there were, it would be doubtful to include watching With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. If, however, you decide to tune in and are overcome with longing about her idyllic Christmas, all is not lost either. Whether you're a duchess or a data administrator, few children fully understands the dedication and labor their mum does in the holiday season. So you can console yourself by picturing the young royals' faces when they unfold a beautifully scripted letter that says, 'I love you because you are brave,' from a homemade Advent calendar, in place of a sweet treat.
